For the true muscle fan, there’s a special thrill in discovering a previously unknown bodybuilder, especially when they’re young and hot. This young man lit up my TV screen on the first episode I ever saw of ‘American Muscle’, around ’88, I think. Luckily, I had my VCR taping the show, so I was able to savor it for years afterward. That tape disappeared long ago, but the images were seared into memory. Online mining finally yielded this golden clip. A classic young jock turned musclehead, Mr. Carney shows terrific thickness, with impressive arms and overall physique. His lats, though, are true wings of desire. We get a tasty peek as they overflow the both his tank top and the bench itself in the first training shot. After more workout footage, he goes shirtless and starts posing, showing off his big chest and arms. Then, finally, the camera shifts to his back, shining with sweat under the lights, and he slowly unfurls his mighty wings into a magnificent spread that fills the screen. Just imagine latching onto those babies and riding him in ‘flight’.
