In the 70s, before VCRs and cable, seeing muscle on TV was a rarity. There was an occasional guy flexing in a sitcom or a commercial and a mere handful of pro wrestlers who carried decent muscle. Televised bodybuilding contests were nearly nonexistent. This was long before ‘Pumping Iron’ and Arnold’s ensuing ubiquity on talk shows. Tarzan movies represented one of the few reliable outlets for ogling the male physique, one which was acceptable even with your parents in the room (although you might still secretly feel ‘funny’). All the various Tarzans were studs, but only a couple sported significant muscle. Mike Henry, from the early 60s, had a chiseled, hairy body with admirable development, but, for me, no one came close to the gorgeously THICK Gordon Scott, with his huge sexy chest.
These two scenes are from the film ‘Tarzan’s Fight for Life’ (1958), only the second Tarzan flick to be released in color. Scott looks awesome in Technicolor, handsome for sure, but big and primal, his muscles aglow with sweat you dream of licking off him. I was already enraptured by his massive chest and mighty arms, but just get a load of (or bust one out over) the density and width of his powerful back as he climbs out the window. His meaty legs look quite tasty too. Surely, anyone who fancies muscle has likely had their share of hot Tarzan fantasies, and Scott was the inspiration for most of mine.

    Instead of the oversized loin cloths which Gordon wears in his six Tarzan movies, I would have preferred to see him in a much more skimpy garment - like the scanty loin cloth of Miles O'Keefe in "Tarzan the Ape Man" (cf. his pictures in the net). But this film was from 1981 and the Gordon-Scott-movies are from the second half of the Fifties - showing too much bare skin was not yet acceptable back then. I'd like to know when the time will be right for a movie featuring a Tarzan wearing nothing.

    The black and white Tarzan film where Scott sloooooowly sleepers a guard with his cocky look on his face and his huge Biceps has ALWAYS MADE ME BLOW!

    You mentioned Scott's back when he jumps out the window in this clip. You also get a quick peek at his meaty white cheeks, too!

    Thanks for posting this! I totally agree with your description. I have long been a fan of both Gordon Scott & Mike Henry as Tarzan. They each have different appeal, in their own way, for me: Henry was ruggedly handsome & had an incredibly jacked, slightly hairy build. Scott was also handsome but did have more sheer muscle (that powerful chest). You can't go wrong with either of them!
