I didn’t assemble this montage, but, finding it online, I thought it perfectly encapsulated what I felt as teen horny for muscle back in the pre-cable/pre-VCR 70s, sitting through interminably bad movies just to enjoy ‘the good parts’. If only I could have had just these highlights to enjoy then.

For whatever reason, when I was a kid, our TV market never ran any of the ‘Hercules’, et al, flicks that had been in circulation a decade earlier. It wasn’t until my late teens that the local UHF channel began showing them periodically, in the wee hours of the morning. I had by then fully embraced my lifelong muscle lust and was already ‘up’ for their midnight airing of pro wrestling from New York, with guys like Tony Atlas and Superstar Graham flexing, so I was conveniently primed for more muscle.

Of course, this being a small station, their budget was minimal, so we never got the original ‘Hercules’ with Reeves, but, instead, his later, lackluster films, or some other dismal entry from one of his less impressive successors. For the promise of muscle, this meant enduring an hour or more of stultifying exposition, lame plotting and bad acting /dubbing before finally getting a glimpse muscled flesh, i.e. ‘the good part’.

The first clip here, starring Reeves himself, derives from the very first film I actually ever saw of his on that UHF channel, ‘The White Warrior’, set in Tsarist Russia (even after checking online, I can’t tell you wtf it was about). Watching this dreck was an ordeal, until finally(!) Reeves stands up and whips off his baggy white jacket to reveal his heavenly body. Was it worth the wait? Back then, with so little similar stimuli, my horny teen self might have thought so, as I went to bed with the boner it gave me.

Looking at these now, there’s no denying the homoerotic thrill implicit in such dramatic doffing of covering garments to expose superhuman physiques, especially when done so in the admiring view of another male. This makes it easy to spin sexy scenarios of one’s own desiring.
