Like many kids, especially those who read comics, I was early on fascinated by strength, even before becoming enamored with the outer manifestation of big muscles. In the early 70s, when they ran ‘Pebbles and Bam Bam’ cartoons on Saturday mornings, with the babies from the ‘Flintstones’ now teenagers, I was disappointed. I had hoped to see Bam Bam, ‘the strongest baby in the world’ and a towhead blond, grown into a big muscleman from the Weider ads I saw in the comics, looking just like this.
