ESPN’s ‘American Muscle’ was an amazing gift to those of us afflicted with a lust for muscle in the late 80s/early 90s. Working a mix of day and night shifts back then, my schedule usually permitted me to watch its midday showing before heading to work, without fear of interruption by my flatmates, and, even better, I was often able to tape it for later and repeated enjoyment.
To paraphrase Forrest Gump, we never knew quite what we were going to get, but I knew I was guaranteed some orgasmic footage on every show. Sometimes, it was just a few minutes, while other episodes offered a cornucopia of exciting sequences to savor.
The contest here, the 1991 Musclemania Chicago competition, was won by the awesome young monster Mike Francois, whom the show had previously profiled. He was incredible, but I was also struck by a stunning man who took 2nd in the light-heavy class.
Perhaps it was my growing up in the 70s, or just the Samson paradigm, but a hot muscle guy rocking long hair has always triggered me HARD. Handsome and tanned, with a blond mane restrained in a ponytail, this man was the apotheosis of a sexy surfer stud. His physique was impressively developed overall, with solid legs and a wide back, but his arms were his dominant feature, thrillingly big and shapely.
His name was Jeff Mulheim, and I committed it to memory in hopes of watching his progress in the ‘sport’. Not long afterward, Muscle Mag’ run a handful of tasty pics of him amid an unrelated training article. He was even better looking than I had realized, and, once again, his bulging arms grabbed my eye and made my cock throb. Those pics provided some very pleasurable moments for me as time went on. But, alas, that’s all we ever got, as he apparently left the scene after that.
Recently, having discovered the ’91 Musclemania footage online, I was pleased to see this gorgeous man again in the bloom of his exquisite youth. I harvested his posing from the competition and appended all the pics I had collected of him over years here.
Such attention to a seemingly minor figure in bodybuilding history might seem odd to some. However, his fleeting presence on the scene, and the paucity of media on him, makes him a suitable proxy for those pivotal figures from our own youth. If you think about the guy who first ‘lit your fuse’, he may not be memorable in himself. You might not even recall his name, but he got you looking and thinking differently. Maybe it was a muscular stranger you saw on the street, or on TV, or on a magazine cover that you didn’t have the guts to pick up and look at more closely. Nonetheless, that image was indelible, and you were soon impelled to seek out similar sights.
