Few 'physique photo' era heartthrobs of the 1960s equaled MONTE HANSEN in popularity. Born November 20, 1943 in French Lick (near Indianapolis), he was raised in Brooklyn, and while still in his teens (and a Golden Glove boxer) did his earliest modeling for Kris of Chicago. A long & prolific collaboration with Manhattan-based Champion Studio led to a cross-country trip to LA and an equally productive association with AMG and other area photographers such as Pat Milo. A vivid, charismatic (and probably bi-polar) personality, Monte was a fellow of volatile moods--all of them well captured in his many films for AMG. Trailed by broken hearts and depleted wallets, he made sporadic trips home to his wife Kathleen (and their son, Monte Dean Hansen III), but maintained a profitable playboy career into the 70s, when his work for Colt reveals a somewhat scruffier persona but no falling off of the sex appeal that had won him fame & fortune. (This engaging collage is a trailer for a 12-film collection of his films reissued on DVD by the bobmizerfoundation.org.)
